We are learning so much about the differences in construction between what is typical in the US and what is typical here. Danny has always told me that he was taught to "measure it twice and cut it once". There seems to be a different rule of thumb here. It's more like "If it's not precise we can still make it work." A friend of ours has a window factory and told us recently that the manufacturers he represents asked him if he knew of a non-profit organization they could donate some materials to! Of course he thought of us. We met with him and a representative of the company from Spain on Thursday. We were told to go measure all the windows. We showed them the plans and the measurements indicated on them. After measuring all the windows, we now know why he wanted us to do so. I'm not sure if any of them were the exact measurement that the plans called for. Okay, there was one, but it was one that Carpenters for Christ did when they were here so it doesn't count!
We are excited about what the Lord is doing with this project. When we wrote about the budget for raising the walls to the roof, we weren't even to the point of talking about windows yet, and here a company from Spain may well donate them! We've been asked to write a letter of request, providing details of the project and the information on the windows. Our friend says it is really just a formality because they have already discussed it. Is our Lord cool or what?
